My Mom’s Words Of Advice… Oh...!!!

Anita is a bubbling, beautiful young lady in her late twenties, she was introduced to me by a lady that once paid an official visit to my place. This lady is fairly tall and light in complexion, any reasonable, well – to- do -man will surely want her to be his wife. However, good physical looks on one hand; may not equal good behavior or character. She had been managing to keep two men for some time, and ultimately; she intended to choose one of them. So, she left the capital city to pay a visit to her mother in the remote village.

      Such villages use to have just a few thousand residents and it is easy to know who is who in the locality. Also, the arrival of someone from the main city is usually greeted by a large number of residents who are close by. Her mother was especially happy to see her daughter who could be adjudged to be ‘doing well’ by some socio -economic standards. The mother had paid some visit to Anita in the main city on a few occasions in the past few years and she is always happy for her dearly beloved daughter; except for just one thing- and that is the need for her to get ‘settled’ with a man of her choice. On this particular occasion, the mother was determined to iron out all the necessary areas of importance in her daughter’s life and make sure all obstacles are out of the way.

      This time of visit happened to be in August, which usually falls within the schools’ long vacation holidays. On a particular night; in late night hours, the mother went to her daughter’s room, woke her up and motioned her to sit up while she too sat by her side on the bed. Without mincing words, the mother wanted to know what was the level of her preparation towards settling down with a man of her choice. In reply, she laid the card clearly on the table; she had two men in her life. One was studying and also working abroad. The mother asked to know how well committed he was and she replied that he used to call once in a while. She, that is the mother; asked about the other man and the lady said they both lived in the neighborhood. He was an employee of a well -known Company, but he was a middle- level personnel.

        The mother listened with rapt attention to her daughter’s explanations and she could perceive that she was interested in the first man who was studying abroad. So, the mother asked her which of them she intended to choose eventually. Anita remained silent because she too could almost predict which of them the mother will like her to choose. After a few minutes’ silence, the mother went on to ask her how cordial they were with the second man and she promptly replied that they called each other on daily basis and they used to meet on weekends. It was an impressive description. So the mother said, ‘I suppose you people should be thinking of how and when to consummate the relationship…’ But the daughter quickly replied that the man in question here happened to be a junior cadre worker which may not augur well with her status… (To be continued).
